On the window ledge the luscious leaves
come together to form a figure,
succulent growing segment by segment.
Multi-jointed fluid-filled limbs stretch out,
juicy legs and feet taut in tension.
Touching down, shiny green bottle bright
emerald head with wisps of silver hair
and piercing searching feral jade eyes.
Sliding down the side of the white pot
reaching out to place a green fleshy foot,
not wanting to bruise break or leak fluid.
Pulp head and tender torso lean back
against the curve of the pot in repose.
Reaching up with angular spade hands
to break the fibrous strands of the rope.
Like an uncomfortable amphibian,
caught between land and water looking
for warmth moisture soil and solitude,
to propagate roots that bind and knot.
